One way that our Avon MA dentist combines cosmetic and restorative dental services is through the use of porcelain veneers. A veneer is a thin sheet of a porcelain material that is sized to fit a tooth and is then bonded to the front side of that tooth. Veneers are used by our doctors for both small restorations to the tooth and to improve its appearance. When a tooth has a small crack on the front side or is chipped our doctors use veneers to seal the fissures and protect it from bacteria and debris getting it and allowing decay to start. Veneers are also available for cosmetic treatments; for instance, if a tooth is discolored or stained a veneer that is tooth-colored is used to bring the tooth’s shade back in line with the other teeth. Multiple veneers can also be used to whiten the smile. For those patients who have a tooth that is little shorter a veneer is often used to bring it even with the neighboring teeth.

Whenever possible a veneer is a good option because it can be placed on the tooth with little or no tooth material being removed. The cost of a veneer is often less than a crown.
